What are Authors?
Authors are royalty recipients. If a person or an organization will receive royalties they are an author. Our royalty software uses the term author because most of our clients are book publishers. Authors can be authors, individuals, songwriters, musicians, corporations or any recipient of royalty income.
Every royalty contract is linked to one or more authors (royalty recipients). Several authors can share the royalties from a single contract or you can create a separate contract for each author linked to a single product.
You can view author records from the Data & functions > Author/contributors view.
Author Import Process
For new clients the author import process is often one the easiest and fastest import to perform. The author information is exported from their existing royalty or accounting software to an excel spreadsheet.
The spreadsheet is reviewed to confirm that each information component; such as city, state and postal codes, are in separate columns (Lesson 2). Then the spreadsheet is checked to remove duplicate author names. Examples of duplicate author names are Will Smith and William Smith or Pam Jones and Pamela Jones. After this is done the file is imported (Lesson 3).
If you don’t want to do the initial author import your customer service representative can do it for you at no charge if provided with a copy of your database file and an Excel file where each information component is in a separate column and duplicate author names have been removed.
